Researched and developed over an eight year period by choreographer and movement specialist Dylan Newcomb, The 16 Ways is a simple and comprehensive series of sixteen core physical movements, each based on a specific vowel sound. The first of it’s kind, The 16 Ways integrates intuitive movement patterns with learnings from cognitive psychology, the Myers-Briggs personality typology, the Spiral Dynamics® model of psycho-socio development, the I Ching, and key elements from Integral Theory.
The 16 Ways is designed as a compact, essential movement routine that anyone can easily perform and is scalable in length from 5 to 45 minutes, depending on how much time you have. Stimulating a full spectrum of energy dynamics, regular practice of these core movements acts like a kind of ‘integral multi-vitamin’ of personal development. The first of it's kind, these same essential sixteen movements are typically practiced in two distinct sequences, Horizontal and Vertical; one stimulating a balanced array of different types of energy dynamics and the other stimulating activity at multiple levels or stages of consciousness. When done with clear intention and imagery, The 16 Ways synergistically weaves the engaged, pushing energies of the yang dynamic with receptive, pulling energies of the yin dynamic, promoting a healthy balance and increasing potential across the full spectrum of both types and stages.
